Former CEO student expands program to SIUE
The Effingham County Creating Entrepreneurial Opportunities, or CEO, program has found its way to the campus of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville thanks to a former program participant.

She emphatically thanks the program’s facilitators, who she says remain some of her most trusted mentors. “I am beyond thankful,” Hortin says. “If every state had a program like this, it would have a huge impact.” Hortin says she saw the CEO program motivate members of a generation that’s often ridiculed for its laziness: “If only we could roll it out to a whole generation.”
TAYLORVILLE, Ill. (WICS/WRSP) — State Representative Sue Scherer is working to help Illinois students prepare for life after graduation, especially those who may not be heading to college.
The audience selected dazzling dancer Trevor Toberman, a student at Hillsboro High School, as the top talent at "MoCo's got Talent," an event produced by the 13 students in the 2019 Montgomery CEO class on Saturday, March 2, in the Hillsboro High School gym.
Operated by the Midland Institute for Entrepreneurship, the CEO program provides business, school, and community leaders with curricula, training, and operating support to establish and launch entrepreneurial education programs in their local school districts. Students who are selected for the program then attend a daily class over the course of the academic year, learning from entrepreneurs and business professionals about how to start and operate a business through mentorship, collaboration, hands-on training, and networking opportunities.
