Dinner... and a Murder

ODON — Students in the Daviess County Creating Entrepreneurial Opportunities or CEO program are changing things up a bit this year.

For the last six years, each CEO class has hosted ‘An Evening with Young Entrepreneurs,’ an event featuring dinner, live entertainment and a silent auction all benefiting the annual trade show that gives the community a glance at student-created businesses as well as future generations of the program started by the Midland Institute of Entrepreneurship.

This time, the class is changing things up a bit.

“The class decided on a murder mystery dinner because we wanted to have a different form of entertainment this year,” said CEO class member Emily Fields. “We liked the idea of having the guests interact and laugh throughout the evening.”

Fields said students started planning the event slated for Jan. 9 at WestGate Academy several months ago.

“We started planning this event in September,” said Fields who said although the format for the dinner will be different, the silent auction will still be a part of the evening. “It’s been great for the CEO students. By having a class business, we are maturing and working well with each other to create a great, fun, evening.”

The mystery, Fields said, is called “Murder at Bunny & Clyde’s.”

During the silent auction, Fields said attendees will have a chance to bid on professional sports team memorabilia, a stay at French Lick Resort and several items donated by area businesses. And those wanting to donate an item to the class can still do so.

Sponsorships are still being accepted too. Currently, Fields said, Craney’s Body Shop, the Daviess County Economic Development Corporation, Graber Construction and WestGate Academy have stepped up to be title sponsors for the evening.

Fields said this year, the meal, which will feature fried chicken, baked fish, mashed potatoes and gravy, noodles, green beans, tossed salad and breads, will be catered by the Gasthof Amish Village.

Tickets are $35 each or a table of six for $200. Doors at WestGate Academy will open at 5:30 p.m. with the dinner slated for 6.

“To purchase tickets, donate auction items or become a sponsor, call 812-254-1500,” said Fields adding tickets can be purchased through Monday.
